Story:
Harra and Ghost sat quietly beneath a tree watching the goings on while waiting for the vet inspection. Ghost was curiously watching all of the horses with his dark brown eyes. He had never seen horses before. He seemed intrigued by them, rather than frightened, Harra noted. He hadn’t full accepted their presence yet and was carefully watching them, which is to be expected with a guard breed. Considering that he had never seen horses, was in unfamiliar surroundings, and with someone that he hadn’t even known for a week yet, he was taking everything in stride. A barely audible growl admitted from his throat though as one of the big stallions passed by a little closer then all of the others had. Harra recognized that a thousand pound animal coming that close would be intimidating for any dog let alone a breed that was bred to guard, but this was still unacceptable behavior. She realized that it was more of a “I’m not so sure that I want you that close to me yet. I don’t trust you” kind of growl then a “I want to kill you” kind of growl. She still didn’t want him to think that he was allowed to behave that way. “Knock it off!” she ordered. Almond shaped eyes flicked in her direction before turning back to all of the goings on. The growling quietly subsided. She wasn’t at all mad; she was actually surprised that had been the biggest reaction that she got from him. Many other dogs would be scared or aggressive towards the horses in his situation. It was a good testament to his temperament that he had reacted so calmly to everything so far.
